Ippokratis Pandis is a seasoned systems architect and database researcher renowned for his impactful contributions to cloud analytics and data infrastructure. Over nearly a decade at Amazon Web Services (AWS), he served as a Vice President and Distinguished Engineer, playing a pivotal role in the evolution of Amazon Redshift, AWS's petabyte-scale data warehouse. His leadership was instrumental in transitioning Redshift to a modern architecture, introducing innovations like serverless reservations and ZeroETL integrations with services such as Aurora and DynamoDB
Before his tenure at AWS, Pandis contributed to the development of Impala at Cloudera and led research initiatives for IBM's DB2 BLU project. He earned his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on efficient, scalable business intelligence and transaction processing in modern systems .
Beyond his corporate roles, Pandis is deeply engaged with the academic and research community. He currently serves as the President of the High Performance Transaction Systems (HPTS) workshop, often referred to as the “Davos of Databases” . His scholarly work includes numerous publications in top-tier conferences like SIGMOD and VLDB, addressing topics such as workload management, spatial analytics, and cloud-native database architectures
