John Coustas

President and Chief Executive Officer at Danaos

BIO

Dr. John Coustas is President, Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors of Danaos Shipping. With over 30 years of experience in the shipping industry, he assumed leadership of the company in 1987, succeeding its founder, Dimitris Coustas. Since then, he has led the company’s corporate strategy and overall management, overseeing its growth into a leading global shipping operator.

Beyond his executive role, Dr. Coustas is Vice Chairman of the Board of The Swedish Club, a member of the Board of the Union of Greek Shipowners, and serves on the Council of DNV.

He holds a degree in Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, as well as a Master’s degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Controls from Imperial College London.
